Workshop on Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, or product throughout its lifecycle. It is denoted in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per year. The carbon footprint concept aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of our actions and encourages individuals, businesses, and governments to take steps to reduce their emissions. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation and industrial processes, release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2 ), methane (CH4 ), and nitrous oxide (N2O), trap heat and contribute to global warming and climate change. Carbon footprint is an indicator of human activities on climate change. Factors contributing to carbon footprint are energy consumption, transportation, food production, waste management, industrial processes and many more. By calculating and understanding our carbon footprint, we can identify areas where we can minimize the changes on the planet.
