Herping Camp at Matheran

Amboli is a picturesque hill station nestled in the northern Western Ghats of Maharashtra, renowned for its lush evergreen forests, cascading waterfalls, and year-round misty climate. As one of the wettest regions in the state, Amboli's unique landscape of dense forests, streams, and rocky escarpments provides ideal conditions for an extraordinary diversity of reptiles and amphibians.

The region is a hotspot for herpetofauna, harbouring several endemic and rare species found nowhere else on Earth. From colourful bush frogs and caecilians to pit vipers, geckos, and the iconic Amboli Toad, the forests come alive after dusk with an astonishing array of amphibian and reptile life. This rich biodiversity has made Amboli one of India's premier destinations for herpers, researchers, and wildlife photographers.

Join us as we venture into Amboli's rain-soaked forests and uncover the remarkable reptiles and amphibians that make this Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot truly unforgettable.
