From learning the basics of Remote Sensing to Interpreting Satellite Images; Preparing Slope Maps for a given geographic area – this workshop will teach you almost everything about QGIS. QGIS stands for Quantum Geographic Information System, open-source software which can be easily downloaded on all platforms like MAC OS/ WINDOWS/ LINUX/ ANDROID.  This software allows the user to analyze and edit geospatial data.

About the speaker:

Mr Vikas Ghadamode, GIS and Remote Sensing Expert. He has completed his M.Sc. Geology, PG Diploma from Geological Survey of India Training Institute, Hyderabad. He Is Currently an Assistant Professor at Geotech GIS Training Institute and Consultancy Services.

DAY 1: 8th October (Saturday)

  • Basics of GIS and Remote sensing and its application in different fields

  • Raster and Vector concepts

  • Introduction to QGIS Software

  • Introduction to google earth pro

  • Geo-referenced and different types of Projection

  • Creation of point, Line and polygon shape files in QGIS and Google Earth Pro

  • Digitisation in QGIS

  • Hands-on exercise

  • Q&A session

 

DAY 2: 9th October (Sunday)

  • How to access open-source satellite images for any part of the world

  • Downloading the DEM dataset

  • Modelling with QGIS tools

  • Band combination, Visualization and image interpretation of satellite image

  • Preparation of Elevation, Contour and Slope map using DEM data

  • Hands-on exercise

  • Q&A session
