Bird Acoustics, Migration Patterns, and Citizen Science
Join our exciting and insightful 3-day online workshop that delves into the wonders of birdwatching, bioacoustics, migration patterns, and the role of citizen science in bird conservation. Whether you're a curious beginner or have some experience in bird observation, this course offers practical tools and knowledge to help you get started and contribute to global scientific efforts through platforms like eBird.
We’ll guide you step-by-step, combining theoretical learning with hands-on practice, so you leave equipped to identify birds, document your observations, and better understand the significance of bird migration. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to explore the fascinating world of birds while contributing to the larger conservation movement!
About the Teachers:
Ms. Chai Eng Law
Communications Specialist | CSR Storyteller
Ms. Samakshi Tiwari
Wildlife Researcher & Conservationist | Mangrove Monitoring Researcher
Speaker description:
Chai Eng Law’s fascination with birds began during her treks, where their beauty and diversity sparked her desire to learn more. This curiosity led her to complete the Basic Ornithology Course from BNHS and later another from NPTEL, certified by IIT Madras. Introduced to eBird during her BNHS course, Chai was captivated by the concept of Citizen Science and became an active contributor, channeling her passion into meaningful data collection. Currently, she is an eBird reviewer for Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, and Morena (Madhya Pradesh), where her dedication and expertise help enrich the global birdwatching community’s efforts in conservation and research.
Speaker description:
Samakshi Tiwari’s passion for birds and ecosystems has shaped her journey as a dedicated researcher. Her formal research began in Dehradun’s urban green spaces, where she studied local birdlife, before contributing to the Black Kite Project. Her next adventure led her to the Reintroduction of Cheer Pheasants Program in Himachal Pradesh, where she worked for a couple of years. She also worked on the Mangrove Monitoring in India project under CIFOR-ICRAF, where she explores the rich mangrove ecosystems along India’s coastlines. She has recently joined the Bird Monitoring Group, Nature Conservation Foundation as a Project Coordinator. Her devotion to bird conservation and environmental research is both inspiring and impactful.
