Prachi Hatkar, a wildlife enthusiast, pursued a post-graduate degree in zoology with a focus on oceanography and fishery science. She began her career as a research scholar at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography after completing her education. She had worked in marine ecology, intertidal surveying, coral reef ecological surveys, mangrove assessments, and marine monitoring projects such as environmental impact assessments. She continued to work tirelessly for sea turtle conservation in Maharashtra, her coastal state. She was certified as a Functional and Biodiversity Expert (FAE) for Ecology and Biodiversity by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET). She has now moved into the world of sea life by assisting in the recovery of the charismatic marine mammal (king of the sea), the Dugong, to make a difference in the conservation of marine life. She is currently working with the Wildlife Institute of India on dugong conservation in India, as well as pursuing a Ph.D. in seagrass-associated wildlife at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara. She was awarded a dive grant by the Women's Divers Hall of Fame. Understanding the ecology of endangered species, assessing the richness of marine life, and integrating the advantages of ecosystem conservation with a livelihood are some of her research interests.
