Dr. Nikhil Modak is an accomplished herpetologist, bioacoustician, and conservation
scientist with extensive expertise in amphibian ecology, molecular phylogenetics, and acoustic
communication.
Dr. Modak currently serves as Assistant Professor (Research) at the Henryk Hoyer
Department of Comparative Anatomy, Jagiellonian University. His career includes significant
contributions as Project Scientist at the Wildlife Institute of India, where he led herpetofaunal
surveys, acoustic monitoring, and citizen science initiatives.
His pioneering research on the molecular phylogeny and ecology of the endemic
leaping frogs (Ranixalidae) of the Western Ghats has greatly advanced the understanding of
amphibian diversity and conservation priorities in India. He has 13 peer-reviewed publications
and multiple international research grants under his name.
. The Participants will benefit from his rich experience in both field-based and
laboratory-based amphibian research, gaining insights about practical skills essential for
scientific study, conservation, and ecological monitoring.
