 Finding a suitable career in the field of environment, wildlife and conservation can be a challenging task. Available jobs may not be easy to find, you may not know how or where to start, jobs may have low pay or even lack stability. Hence we at The Nature’s Eye in an effort to connect students, wildlife enthusiasts and environmentalists to educators have arranged a webinar by Dr Ravi Chellam, a notable personality in the field of conservation with decades worth of experience.

About Dr Ravi Chellam

Ravi Chellam is a wildlife biologist and conservation scientist who has been involved with research, education, outreach and conservation since the early 1980s. His career includes stints with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) - India Program, Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, Gharial Conservation Alliance, Foundation for Ecological Security and Greenpeace India, many of these in leadership positions. He studied the Asiatic lions in Gir Forest for his Ph.D. and has been involved with research and conservation of lions since 1985. This includes field research, surveys and preparing a plan to translocate and establish a second population of free-ranging lions in India. He served as an Expert Scientific Advisor to the Forest Bench of the Supreme Court of India in 2012. For about a decade he was the Research Coordinator of WII. Among the research projects he was involved with at WII was a Indo-US project which looked at the impacts of habitat fragmentation on herpetofauna and small mammals in the Western Ghats. He has been involved in governance roles with several NGOs. He has published extensively, works closely with the government on policy matters and given several (> 400) academic and public talks. He is currently CEO of Metastring Foundation, member of the Biodiversity Collaborative and Director of the Mission Secretariat of the preparatory phase project of the National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Well-Being.
