Frog and Toad (Anuran) Ecology: Introduction, Research & Field Methods
Frogs reminds us of the rain, ponds, streams, forests, and even our backyards. An easy lifecycle that we learn in our primary classes on how the frog or toad eggs transform to tadpoles and then to adult animals! A recognizable call that we often associate with good conditions of the environment. Yet, they remain one of the most overlooked groups in research studies. Although they regulate insect populations, and serve as a vital link in the food web, how much do we really know about them?
This two day course is designed to familiarise participants with frogs and toads (anurans) and their ecological roles, explore the research methods used to study anuran populations, and provide participants with practical field tips for observing and monitoring anurans. We will explore the fascinating world of anurans through their ecology, and learn fundamentals of amphibian ecological research, and gain hands-on experience with basic field data analysis. By the end of the course, you'll develop basic understanding of anuran ecology, and of research methods.

About the Teacher
-
Conservation scientist
Jithin is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist, interested in applied ecology, and human-nature connections. During and after his masters in Wildlife Sciences, he worked on amphibian ecology and conservation extensively, and have conducted multiple studies on amphibians in the western and eastern Himalaya, and the Western Ghats, spanning montane streams, rock outcrops and evergreen forests. His works also include reptile and human ecology, and a focus on ecology and conservation education. He is currently a doctoral researcher in Biodiversity Sciences, focusing on human-nature connections. His work on amphibians involves basic taxonomy and applied ecology, covering population, community and habitat ecology using extensive field data, and quantitative methods spanning linear and mixed modelling, hierarchical Bayesian models, and ordination techniques.
