Fungal Ecology- Evolution and Identification
Fungi are everywhere—beneath our feet, within forests, and even inside other organisms—yet they remain one of the least understood kingdoms of life. They shape ecosystems, recycle nutrients, support plant life, and influence the health of our planet. But how much do we really know about them?
This three day course is designed to familiarise participants with fungi and their ecological role, explore how they evolved into the unique and diverse organisms we see today, provide participants with the tools to become citizen mycologists, and emphasise the importance of fungi in securing a healthy world.
Explore the fascinating world of fungi through their diversity, evolution, and ecological importance. Learn the fundamentals of mycology, discover how fungi shape ecosystems, and gain practical skills in observing and identifying fungal species. By the end of the course, you'll develop a deeper appreciation for fungi and be inspired to contribute to their conservation as a citizen mycologist.

Assessor for the Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS)
Milla is an ecologist and field mycologist, exploring fungal biodiversity in South India. After pursuing her masters abroad in Environmental Studies, she returned to studythe diversity of Auroville’s tropical forests. She is an assessor for the Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) and works in the field of Arboriculture. Milla began her work with fungi in 2023, leading a project to document to forest macrofungal biodiversity, she also conducts educational workshops, is curating a mushroom field guide, manages an environmental educational social media account, and is part of MOI (Mushrooms of India Community), conducting mushrooms surveys in other regions of India. She focuses on mushroom documentation and fungal ecology, exploring the interconnection the weave our forests together
