Snakes of India

About

Snake, (suborder Serpentes), also called the serpent, is any of more than 3,400 species of reptiles distinguished by their lack of limbs and greatly elongated body and tail. They are found everywhere in the world except Antarctica, Iceland, Ireland, Greenland, and New Zealand. About 600 species are venomous, and only about 200 are able to kill or cause significant injury. Being a very large and diverse country, India is home to more than 350 species of snakes. Snakes, although ecologically important, are widely misunderstood beings. There are approximately a hundred snake species listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, typically due to habitat loss from development. It is very interesting to understand why few of us love snakes, while a few can’t seem to come to terms with them. This is largely due to the fact that we are afraid of snakes as we don’t know much about them. You will be surprised to know that the world of snakes is a very interesting one. In light of this let’s delve a bit deeper into the world of snakes. The Nature’s Eye presents to you an exciting webinar on “Snakes of India”.
