From GIS Fundamentals to Practical Spatial Analysis

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become an essential tool in ecology, wildlife conservation, environmental science, research, and spatial planning. This 3-Day QGIS Workshop provides a beginner-friendly introduction to GIS and practical spatial analysis using QGIS, a free and open-source GIS software.

The workshop takes participants step-by-step from understanding spatial data and basic QGIS tools to performing vector and raster analysis, working with satellite imagery and environmental datasets, and creating professional thematic maps. Through live demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants will apply GIS techniques to practical environmental and real-world spatial problems.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have the skills to work with spatial data, perform basic GIS analysis, and produce a complete thematic map as a final output.

About the Teacher

S Balasubramaniyam, a GIS consultant and researcher, brings a wealth of experience to the online workshop. With a Master's degree in Geoinformatics from the University of Madras and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Mumbai, he has conducted numerous training workshops across India, offering expertise in spatial analysis, modelling, and change detection analysis. His proficiency extends to a variety of GIS tools and platforms, including ArcGIS Suite, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, and Small world, coupled with programming skills in Python, C++, and Magik. S Balasubramaniyam has coauthored patents and authored publications on innovative approaches in integrating geospatial technology with Extended Reality (XR).
