Mr. Sohail Madan is a distinguished conservationist and environmental educator with deep expertise in biodiversity restoration, butterfly habitat development, and citizen science initiatives. With over two decades of experience in conservation and public engagement, he has designed and implemented numerous butterfly and pollinator gardening projects, ecological restoration programs, and educational initiatives across India.
Mr. Madan currently serves as the Director at WildTales Foundation and Spoondrift Pvt. Ltd., where he leads biodiversity outreach and habitat restoration efforts in collaboration with government bodies, corporates, and academic institutions. He has played a key role in establishing over 70 butterfly habitats under the Delhi Butterfly Corridor Project and led the development of the iconic Asola Butterfly Park in Delhi. His innovative approach to urban biodiversity conservation has earned him the prestigious Dr. B. Kiowta Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 for his work on dragonflies and youth development.
Previously, Mr. Madan worked as Assistant Director at the Bombay Natural History Society, where he managed environmental education programs, restoration projects, and biodiversity research at the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. His dedication to training and public awareness is reflected through his authorship of books, research publications, and nature education campaigns.
In addition, Mr. Madan has been an educator in national biodiversity festivals and has trained frontline forest staff across various states. His work continues to inspire communities to connect with nature through sustainable gardening and conservation practices.
Mr. Madan’s practical knowledge of butterfly gardening, ecological restoration, and citizen-led conservation makes him an ideal mentor for learners passionate about urban biodiversity. We are honored to have him lead this course, where he will guide participants through the beauty and benefits of creating butterfly-friendly spaces right on their terraces.
